According to the Israeli army, the 14-year-old boy was killed “in a terrorist attack”. They have not provided any further details. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu comments on the news and describes it as a terrible murder.
The boy disappeared on Friday morning. Later that day, armed settlers entered nearby villages. The settlers set fire to houses and cars and shot at villagers, according to the Israeli human rights group Yesh Din. One man was killed and at least 25 people were injured, according to Palestinian authorities.
Discourages revenge attacks
After the boy was found dead on Saturday, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant advises against revenge attacks and “taking the law into one’s own hands”.
The Palestinian Prime Minister Muhammed Mustafa in turn condemns the storming of the Palestinian villages.
– The settlers’ attack will not deter our people from standing on their land, he says.
The violence in the West Bank, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, has intensified since the war in Gaza broke out with the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7 last year.
In the West Bank, at least 462 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers since the Gaza war broke out last fall, according to Palestinian authorities.
