Violent Clashes with ISIS Militants in Hasakah

The clashes that started with the attack of ISIS militants on the prison where the members of the organization are located in Hasakah, northeast of Syria, have been continuing since Thursday. The United States also provides air support to the Kurdish forces in the region against ISIS.

The Pentagon has confirmed that the US-led coalition is conducting air operations.

State Department Spokesperson Ned Price stated that the organization has been making efforts for a year to release the militants in prison.

3500 ISIS suspects are being held in Hasaka prison. It is stated that some of them are among the leading staff.

The attack on Ghwayran prison is one of the most effective attacks carried out by the organization after its defeat nearly three years ago.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that hundreds of ISIS fighters who escaped from prison during the fighting were recaptured, but some are still on the run.

Kurdish forces have surrounded the prison and are clashing with militants for control of nearby areas. It is stated that the people of the region have left their homes.

Sources in the region report that about 90 ISIS fighters were killed, and about 50 of the Kurdish forces lost their lives.

It is among the information coming from the region where civilians lost their lives in the conflicts.

It is stated that the militants refused to surrender in some parts of the prison, while Kurdish forces recorded that they had taken control of most of the region.

It is recorded that there are also militants from Europe in the prison.

The incident shows that, according to some, the organization is still a threat and has the capacity to carry out such attacks.

Making statements to the Reuters news agency, the elderly in the region stated that support for ISIS has increased recently due to the discontent in the Arab community in the region against the Kurdish administration.

Those who spoke to Reuters accuse the Kurdish administration of discrimination. The Kurdish administration in the region denies this.
