Violent clashes took place this Saturday between Hezbollah and the Israeli army on the border between Lebanon and Israel. Three people were killed, a Hezbollah fighter and two Lebanese civilians. Hamas announced the death of three of its members during an anti-Israeli attack carried out from Lebanon. Since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel on October 7, the situation has been tense on the Lebanese-Israeli border, the scene of violent fighting almost daily.

The front flared up on Saturday in the farms of Chebaa, a 40 square kilometer area claimed by Beirut and occupied by Israel in the far southeast of Lebanon. Artillery and missile fighting lasted for hours the day after the death of a journalist which the Shiite party has sworn to avenge.
Hezbollah attacked six Israeli positions with rockets and guided missiles in this disputed area bordering the Syrian Golan occupied and annexed by Israel. The pro-Iranian party announced in a statement that it had destroyed installations and equipment in an important electronic listening and surveillance base of the Israeli army.
The Israelis responded by firing dozens of large-caliber shells which fell around several localities in Lebanese territory and near residential areas.
In the village of Chebaa, in the far southeast of the country, an elderly couple was killed when a projectile hit their house head-on.
The UNIFIL peacekeepers who deploy thousands of men on the Lebanese-Israeli border seem overwhelmed by events and for fear of being caught in the crossfire, they have reduced the number of their patrols.
