Violence plagues Brazilian football – one dead in a senseless

Cruzeiro supporters were returning by bus to Belo Horizonte on Sunday when they were attacked.

One of the supporters of Cruzeiro, who play in the top league of Brazilian football, has died following an attack by ultra-supporters of rival team Palmeiras, says news agency AP.

Cruzeiro supporters were returning to Athletico Paranaense after Saturday’s 0-3 defeat on a bus to Belo Horizonte on Sunday when they were attacked.

Based on footage the bus was shot with fireworks and caught fire. Supporters were apparently beaten with metal pipes.

According to Brazilian police, the deceased was 30 years old. The attack may have been revenge for the 2022 clash in which Cruzeiro supporters abused Palmeiras fans.

At least 12 supporters were injured in the situation. Cruzeiro condemned the violence on social media.

– There is no room for violence in football. We must stop these criminal acts, in the club’s Instagram story was written.

The weekend of Cruzeiro, which is in eighth place in the series, got off to a dark start already in the opening seconds of the match against Paranaense. Striker Rafa Silva would nudge Paranaense with his elbow Kaique Rocha below the neck and flew straight into the red shower after only three seconds.

Cruzeiro therefore had to play the entire match with one man down and suffered their sixth consecutive winless match in the Brazilian league.

Silva, who returned to the field in the match after a long injury, apologized for his trick after the match.

– I know I made a mistake that made the team’s position difficult, Silva said according to Globo.
