Vimpelin Veto won the sixth Finnish championship in its club history on Saturday. The championship is the first of the batting joker Jukka-Pekka Vainionpää’s career.
Vimpelin Veto celebrates the Finnish baseball championship. Veto secured their championship on Saturday at Saarikenta after beating Manse PP with a score of 1–0 (3–2, 2–2). Vimpeli won the series cleanly with 3–0 victories.
Veto celebrated the championship in front of almost 3,900 spectators, while the municipality has a population of just under 3,000.
The batting jokers became the heroes of the island field Janne Mäkelä and Jukka-Pekka Vainionpääwho each hit two runs.
Six-time hitter king Vainionpää, 32, won his first Finnish championship. He was also voted the most valuable player of the playoffs.
– It’s pretty good (feelings). Now let’s celebrate, Vainionpää rejoiced to Urheilu.
The championship won on Saturday is Vimpel’s sixth in history. The last time Vimpelli celebrated the championship was in 2017.
Sovereign control
Vimpeli Veto’s season was wild. It won the regular season by five points, and did not lose at home once during the entire season.
– We had consistent performance throughout the summer. There weren’t too many swings. We created a concept that worked during the winter and were able to implement it damn well until the fall. That was enough Mikko Kanala comment.
The value of the championship for the Vimpelians is increased by the team’s own growths. Six of our own children played in the team, and in addition there were three children from the neighboring municipalities of Vetel and Halsua. The average age of the team was only 22.8 years.
– This is such a genuine team, a fierce competitor. The team has grown throughout the year and it’s good to be with people. I think it showed on the field, playmaker Tomi Niskanen comment.
The bet surprised many, among other things, with its delayed sign. The indoor game was strong almost the entire season, although in the end, the strong outdoor game brought the team a gold medal.
– We were able to create something new in the nest, especially in terms of the inside game. In the spring, we also thought about how to play an outdoor game in Kuortane. I am shockingly satisfied. This went according to the script, Niskanen was happy.
Sports expert Sami Partanen according to Vimpel’s young team dominated the series sovereignly. It showed an experienced group from Tampere how to play baseball.

Manse’s level was not enough
Manse PP was more ready than in previous finals and it stayed in the game with, among other things, its locker Juha Puhtimäki and Juuso Myllyniemi thanks to.
Puhtimäki scored three runs in the game. Myllyniemi, on the other hand, pinged the moth three times and collected five top hitting points in addition.
However, in the fourth inning of the second period, Tampere needed one run to make it to the super inning. However, it did not succeed here.
– It’s a big disappointment. Congratulations to Vimpelin Vedo. Vimpeli was the best team in Finland and deserves all of this. This last one was a good game for us, but there was no taker this fall, Mansen’s game director Juhani Lehtimäki regretted.
Partanen expected more from Manse, who celebrated the championship last year.
– I thought they had been waiting for this moment since last year’s championship. I expected that the experienced team would be fired up and participate with full soul power. The level of play was not enough and Vimpeli completely bored Mansen’s inside game. Successive successes did not come and the mental side was left behind, Partanen summed up.
