At the crossroads of Provence, Languedoc and Camargue, Avignon hides many treasures. On the opposite bank of the Rhône, facing the papal city of Avignon, Villeneuve-lès-Avignon housed the residence of the Cardinals in the 14th century. With a rich architectural heritage, the old medieval village is distinguished by its Fort Saint-André, a fortified enclosure designed to protect the Benedictine abbey and its Philippe-le-Bel tower.
