The political goal is for the municipality of Östersund to become 75,000 inhabitants in 2040. Several different projects are also underway to get more to move to Norrland’s inland. Last winter, for example, a top trip for people who can think of moving here was arranged.
But if the number of inhabitants is to increase, not only a rich outdoor life but also housing – and preferably at reasonable prices.
So what does it look like? SVT has looked back five years in Statistics Sweden’s statistics to see what the price development looked like and what a villa in Östersund costs.
We have subsequently compared it with six other population in large municipalities in the other five northernmost counties. We also chose to include Skellefteå as that municipality has been highly noticed in recent years due to Northvolt which has meant a large move in to that municipality.
Footnote: The statistics for small houses include villas, townhouses and semi -detached houses, but the absolute majority are villas.
