When the forces of the rescue service from Gävle, Rörberg and Skutskär arrived at the scene, they were met by heavy smoke coming from the roof of the villa. At first it looked like it would be possible to limit the fire to the upper floor, but the fire quickly spread to other parts of the house.
– Around seven thirty we understood that it would not be possible to save the building so it had to burn to the ground, says Emil Berggren, alarm and control officer at the rescue service.
“Prolonged shower of sparks”
There has also been a risk of spreading to adjacent buildings and the emergency services have remained on the scene during the evening to prevent more fires.
– There was a prolonged rain of sparks during the extinguishing work and it required many resources, says Emil Berggren.
At around 10pm, several of the forces began to turn home but there will still be emergency personnel on site during the night for follow-up.
No one is said to have been injured in connection with the fire.
