Viktor Gyökeres has scored the most goals in the top leagues during 2024

The numbers actually show that he is the best striker in the world in the last year.

Few believed that Swedes Viktor Gyökeres26, would make the kind of smash hit he did after moving to Sporting Lisbon last summer. Sure he had time to prove himself in Coventry, but 32 goals in 35 games was shockingly good!

Won by a landslide last year

Despite spending most of the summer rehabbing after surgery, he has started this season at least as well as last year. So far, there have been eleven goals in eight games. Ten goals in six league games and a goal in the Champions League opener against LOSC Lille.

Last year, Gyökeres impressed by scoring 30 league goals in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, a full nine goals more than the runner-up Simon Banza. Now he has had a flying start to 2024/2025, when he leads the shooting league in a convincing way again. Already after six rounds, he has scored six goals more than the three players who share second place in the top scoring league.

Statistics recently came out that Gyökeres was actually the best goalscorer in the world during the last 365 days (from when the graphic was created). He then led over other famous goalscorers around the top European leagues. They then noted that Gyökeres had scored 54 goals in the last 59 games while Robert Lewandowski (31 goals), Mohamed Salah (32 goals), Erling Haaland (46 goals), Kylian Mbappé (50 goals) and Harry Kane (51 goals) was behind him in the list.

Best in 2024

Now Viaplay has come up with another exciting fact about Viktor Gyökere’s matchless achievements. If you look at Europe’s six best leagues and add up the players’ club and national team goals in 2024, it is actually Gyökeres who managed to net the most times then.

The striker from Aspudden in southern Stockholm has scored 40 goals so far this calendar year. That’s five more than Harry Kane and six more than Erling Haaland. Incredibly impressive! Gyökeres is thus the best in the world.

Also Gyökere’s Swedish attacking colleague in the national team, Alexander Isakqualify for the leaderboard. He has scored 20 goals for Newcastle and Blågult so far in 2024.
