Like Vikings, Boy Swallows Universe is based on true events. This time, however, it’s not about epic Vikings and their raids. It’s about a little boy and his broken family. Boy Swallows Universe is the film adaptation of the film of the same name,
semi-autobiographical bestseller p* by Trent Dalton.
Travis Fimmel plays him in it criminal stepfather Lyle, which was an important part of Trent Dalton’s real-life childhood. He already filled the role of the ambivalent father figure with a sense of family and a good dose of ruthlessness very well as Ragnar in Vikings.
The miniseries plays 1983 in Brisbane, Australia. At the center of the story is the 11-year-old boy Eli and his dysfunctional family, which has gone through difficult times. The mother is a drug addict, the father is absent and the older brother doesn’t say a word. When Lyle comes into her life, things change: He helps her mother get clean, but the two of them also make ends meet with drug deals.
