Stops working – just before the Champions League premiere

It was at 19:00 on Tuesday that the early matches with Juventus-PSV and Young Boys-Aston Villa were to start when several viewers on X, formerly Twitter, began to complain about Viaplay.

Viaplay took over the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League in connection with the new season 2024/2025. Until at least the 2026/2027 season, Viaplay will broadcast the Champions League matches.

Error message on the streaming site

According to users, an error message appeared when they were to click on the Champions League. Swedish users were met with a message with the heading “You do not have access to this content” with the following text:

“Unfortunately, you cannot watch this through your current subscription. Contact your operator to change the offer.”

However, several Viaplay subscribers believe that they have the right subscription to watch the Champions League.

Other viewers have received the message “We’re sorry, something went wrong”.

The fault is not with Viaplay – but with Tele2

Fredrik Jonssonwho is press contact at Viaplay, tells Sportbladet that there are no technical problems. In fact, it is about which operator the customer has.

– The majority of those affected have accounts through an operator who has not entered into an agreement with us. So we refer these customers to their operator, he adds the newspaper.

For News24 says Jönsson that all viewers who had problems also had Tele2 as their operator.

On the telecom company’s website, however, it is stated that customers will not have access to live broadcast Champions League matches.

“…the starting point is that Tele2 does not have the rights to show the Champions League while the tournament is in progress.”, it says on the website.

According to Tele2, partial matches will be able to be seen via TV6, which is available in some of the telecom group’s channel packages.

Correction: Previously it was stated that the technical problems were with Viaplay. However, it turned out to be about Tele2.
