“The wolf does exactly what it has learned in millions of years of evolution,” says Jansman. “He hunts ungulates. If you compare them to big cats, wolves are very bad hunters. They have no real weapons, they must have a good sense of smell to detect weakness in prey and also a hunt of exhaustion. So they punish everything. which are not healthy or vital, or which exhibit unnatural behaviour. These are mainly boars, deer and roe deer in nature. We have removed sheep in an agricultural cultural landscape from their natural habitat. They cannot use their natural anti-predator behavior in a meadow and are then fairly defenseless.”
