Authorities have ruled that residents and workers in the central, prosperous Chaoyang area of the big city will have to undergo a corona test three times a week. The area is home to about three and a half million people. Chaoyang is also home to embassies and foreign residents.
At least more than ten blocks have been closed because a coronavirus infection has been found in the area. The city center now cruises coronavirus test sequences every hundred meters to allow millions of tests to be done daily.
There are few coronavirus infections in Beijing compared to the rest of the world. In a large city of 21 million people, twenty infections a day have been detected in recent days. 29 new infections were reported on Tuesday. Twenty of them were found in Chaoyang.
China has zero tolerance for coronavirus infections. Therefore, the authorities will take strict containment measures for any infection.
Beijingers rushed to buy food when authorities announced new corona restrictions. The shelves of several stores have been emptied of fresh vegetables, among other things.
China’s largest city, Shanghai, has been completely closed for weeks. Many residents have had a shortage of food because due to the blockade, distribution is not working and food deliveries are not allowed in the city.
