Video series tells stories of newcomers to Brantford

The Brantford Immigration Partnership has launched a new Storyteller Series that shares the journeys of new Canadians to the city.

“Brantford Immigration Partnership shares resources and develops partnerships to support new Canadians who are coming to Brantford,” said David Vujasinovich, community development coordinator at the City of Brantford. “We are thrilled to be able to offer the Newcomer Story videos in nine languages.”

Videos are available in Arabic, French, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. To access captioning, open the video, click on the settings gear icon on the bottom right, click on Subtitles C/C and select a preferred language.

The videos are posted on the BIP YouTube channel at youtube.com/@BrantfordBIP

In addition, BIP, in partnership with the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, offers a Newcomer Employment Toolkit that provides information to help newcomers find employment.

“We hope this toolkit helps new Canadians access key information and local services to assist them in finding employment or start a new business,” said Mark Skeffington, senior communications coordinator with the Workforce Planning Board.

The toolkit is intended to address cultural differences and expectations that may impact job searching, and provides insights into language supports; the hiring process, including information on how to create a resume and cover letter; networking; apprenticeships and internships; volunteering; training; and taxes.

The toolkit is available at Brantford.ca/BIPCareerToolkit.

The Brantford Immigration Partnership launched in 2020 and represents a network of community partners from various sectors with a collective vision of creating a welcoming community for new Canadians.
