Dave Chappelle was uninjured and returned to his show shortly after the assault. According to those present at the scene, the actor Jamie Foxx, present, would have gone up on the stage to help the comedian. Chris Rock, who was slapped by Will Smith on the Oscars stage in late March, laughed at the situation, asking “was that Will Smith?”
