Victor Hedman’s unknown super record in the NHL playoffs – is only the second player in league history to succeed

Victor Hedman continues to make a huge impression in the NHL.
Now he has broken another record.

There was a loss for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first Stanley Cup final against the Colorado Avalanche earlier this week. Gabriel Landeskog scored one of the goals during regular time, and by extension another Swede, André Burakovsky, decided the match.

Mighty record

But Tampa’s big back star Victor Hedman did not leave the ice scoreless. In the first period, the Swede played until a goal, and it was thus his 13th assist in this year’s playoffs. Hedman has also scored two goals, which means that he scored 15 points in this year’s playoffs. And it was not completely insignificant.

Hedman thus entered the NHL’s history book of all time. Hedman is now, according to the Hockey Reference, the second player in all of NHL history to make three straight playoffs in a row with more than 15 points scored. When Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup 2020, Hedman scored 20 points, and he also won the award as the playoff MVP. Last year, when Lightning defended the title, it was 18 points.

The other player

And now, with at least three matches left to play in this year’s playoffs, he has already reached 15 points. The only pitcher who has previously succeeded with the feat is Denis Potvin, the New York Islanders legend, who did so four seasons in a row from 1980 to 1983.

There have been plenty of incredibly skilled defenders in NHL history, but only two have scored more than 15 points in three straight playoffs. Super legend Nicklas Lidström was close to success in the playoffs from 2007 to 2009, but was two points short of 15 during the mid-season, Bobby Orr, the top defender of all time, also failed with the feat.
