Tampa Bay Lightning won the third Stanley Cup final.
But the superstar Nikita Kucherov was injured – and afterwards there were sour faces.
– It is dangerous, says Victor Hedman angrily.
Tampa Bay Lightning had lost the two opening Stanley Cup finals against the Colorado Avalanche, most recently with a humiliating 0-7. You thus had the knife to your throat if you wanted to shake life in the final, and that was exactly what you did when you got to play at home for the first time in this year’s final series.
The superstar injured
Colorado Avlanche admittedly started the scoring for Colorado (he also scored another goal in the match), but Lightning showed character when they turned and eventually won 6-2. But not everything is peace and joy for it.
During the playoffs, they have had big star Brayden Point, who two playoffs in a row been one of the team’s most important and most prominent players, away with injury. And tonight came the next worrying news, when the team’s most creative and perhaps foremost outspoken star, Nikita Kucherov, left injured.
“It’s dangerous”
In the third period, when the match was pretty much already decided, Devon Toews pushed to Kucherov, who fell unhappily and slammed right into the rim. Kucherov tried to continue playing, but had too much pain, and had to cancel the match. After the game, it was upset in the Tampa camp, and Victor Hedman was angry about the situation.
– It’s dangerous. We’ll see if anything happens and if the league acts. But probably not…, says the Swede.
Tampa coach Jon Cooper was also upset.
– It is a contact sport, but the players out there know what they are doing. Smart players know what they’re doing on the ice, and everyone saw what happened, so we’ll see what happens, he says.
