Sweden took their sixth straight victory on Monday evening.
But French star Pierre-Édouard Bellemare came up with an unexpected play afterwards.
– I don’t know why he says that, Victor Hedman answers to Expressen.
The Hockey World Cup has so far been one long victory party for Tre Kronor. Six matches so far have become six straight victories for our blue-and-yellow national team, which is already finished as group four.
French play
On Monday evening, there was a 3-1 victory against France after a tight match that was only decided in the third period when Sweden scored 2-1 through Erik Karlsson. The French had nothing to play for and were surprised that they managed to stand up so well against the superior Tre Kronor.

French star player Pierre-Édouard Bellemare made an unexpected statement to Tre Kronor after the match.
– We played a good match, but they probably didn’t play their best match. Sweden didn’t take us seriously, that’s why the match turned out the way it did. Our games against Slovakia and Latvia were better. We had more attacks then, he tells Expressen and thinks that Sweden underestimated them.
– Yes, I think so, and it needs smaller nations like us. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had a chance.
Hedman’s answer
When the Swedish back star Victor Hedman is told of Bellemare’s surprising words, he cannot understand it at all. He himself was just satisfied with winning the match and not putting himself out there too much.
– Nice to win, but France played fantastically well and sacrificed a lot. They probably covered more shots than we had on goal. It was tight inside, but France is a good team led by Bellemare who had certainly fired them up, he says to the evening newspaper and does not think that Sweden underestimated them at all.
– No, we absolutely did not. I don’t know why he says that, that’s up to him.

Tre Kronor has done what was expected of them and after a full pot in the group stage, it is impossible to be anything but satisfied with what has been achieved so far.
– If you win six out of six, then it is difficult to get away with anything other than the highest grade, says Hedman in the interview.
