In Västerbotten, Färjestad won the first of two quarter-finals against Skellefteå. The Värmlanders, who top the SHL, took the lead through a deliciously struck penalty by Victor Ejdsell.
After Zeb Forsfjäll equalized for Skellefteå, the third in the SHL’s scoring Victor Ejdsell would have an open position again.
Ejdsell was on the right side of the blue line with the smallest margin and took advantage of the wrong pass from the home defense. After video review, the lead goal to 2-1 was approved.
Return meeting awaits
Färjestad increased to 4-1 before Skellefteå would recover.
But despite double goals in the third period and the home team chasing an equaliser, Skellefteå had to see themselves defeated for the third straight meeting against Färjestad.
After Färjestad’s victory with 4–3, the return match and quarter-final decision await in Värmland, next Tuesday.
