Victim’s photo catches killer in Lainio – gets 16 years in prison

It was on January 24 that a 75-year-old man was found badly stabbed – at least 15 times – in his car in Lainio.

Villager Ulf Henricsson found the victim and tried to save his life.

– I blew in his mouth and we kept at it for probably 20 minutes but never got his pulse going, he told SVT on January 30.

Twelve decisive minutes

Above all, it is a picture and two testimonies that were central to the prosecutor’s evidence. A sequence of events in twelve decisive minutes:

  • Witness sees the defendant leave his home at 2:30 p.m. on January 24.
  • The murdered man, sitting in his own car and taking pictures of the defendant’s vehicle in front at 14:44.
  • Witness finds the 75-year-old badly stabbed in his car at 14:56.
  • Not seriously disturbed

The district court has previously judged the 45-year-old as guilty of the crime. Last week, the forensic psychiatric examination was presented.

    – He was not seriously mentally disturbed either during the act or when the investigation was carried out, said prosecutor Kristin Andersson to SVT at the time.

    Several years in prison

On Monday, the verdict was announced at Gällivare district court. The man is convicted of murdering his relative and the penalty is 16 years in prison.

The man must also pay damages totaling SEK 165,351.
