Stratford’s police services board will have new leadership beginning in June after current vice chair Tim Doherty and member Rosemary Tanner were elected last week to take over as chair and vice chair respectively.
Tim Doherty, the current vice chair of the Stratford Police Services Board, will take over the chair position from Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson in June following an election at last week’s board meeting.
As Mathieson had previously announced he would not be seeking another term as mayor in this fall’s municipal election, he told the police services board he would therefore not stand for re-election as board chair.
“As everyone knows, I am not seeking re-election, so my time on this board will end at the end of November,” Mathieson told board members.
However, Mathieson requested that he remain in the chair position to assist executive assistant Casey Riehl as she takes over administrative duties for the police services board from Patricia Shantz, who announced her retirement as the board’s executive assistant at the end of last year.
Ultimately, the board voted to elect Doherty as chair beginning on June 1.
“I am honored to take on the role as chair of the Stratford Police Services Board and am appreciative of the trust my colleagues on the board have placed in me,” Doherty told the Beacon Herald. “The Stratford Police Service is in good hands under the leadership of Chief Greg Skinner and Deputy Chief Gerry Foster. I look forward to working with them as well as members of the board to continue to provide the high standard of service that presently exists in our community.
“I look forward to working with the (Community Equity Action Team) as they grow and become a strong voice in Stratford, St Mary’s and South Perth.”
Doherty also thanked both Mathieson and Shantz for their time serving on and working with the board.
“Their wisdom, knowledge and commitment to the citizens of our community are going to be greatly missed,” he said.
Board member Rosemary Tanner will take over as vice chair when Doherty steps into the chair position in June.
