Veto against new sanctions against North Korea

China and Russia have vetoed a UN Security Council resolution against a US-led initiative to impose new sanctions on North Korea.

The proposal to introduce new sanctions was presented in the light of North Korea’s latest robot tests, and included restrictions on how much oil North Korea may import.

The latest test shootings were carried out shortly after US President Joe Biden left Asia after a visit to South Korea and Japan.

The proposal was supported by the other 13 members of the Security Council.
