A vet prescribed narcotic medication for his dog – but actually used it on himself. Now she is sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for a serious drug offence, reports The barometer.

The district court assesses that the veterinarian prescribed a total of over 7,000 tablets that were not really meant for the dog. The court sees the crime as serious because she also abused her right of prescription.

The veterinarian, active in Kalmar county, has stated in questioning that the tablets were initially intended for the dog, but that due to pain problems she also started using the medicine. She subsequently developed an addiction to the tablets.

In addition to the prison sentence, the woman loses her right to prescribe medication and may also lose her veterinary license.
