Vessels have been seized after broken cable

The case applies to the telecom cable that was damaged between Latvia and Gotland earlier on Sunday.

The seized ship goes under the designation Vezhen in Malta and was on its way from the Russian harbor Ust-Luga to Skagen in Denmark, according to Marinetraffic.com.

– We are now implementing a number of concrete investigative measures, but what they consist of I cannot go into account for the ongoing preliminary investigation, says Senior Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist.

“Working intensively”

The Swedish Coast Guard has a ship right next to the Vezhen just outside Karlskrona.

– A number of authorities, including the police’s national operational department, the Coast Guard and the Armed Forces are involved in the investigation. I can see that Swedish authorities are now working intensively and jointly to investigate this incident, says Senior Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist.

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson had a dinner meeting with Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Norway’s Prime Minister Jona Gahr Støre and Finland President Alexander Stubb in Copenhagen.
