Vessel of Hatred is supposed to be a “step forward” – this is how it should continue

Diablo IV wants to take a big step forward with the Vessel of Hatred expansion, so all players should be able to get their money’s worth. MeinMMO tells you what’s behind it.

With the Vessel of Hatred expansion, Blizzard promises that this first premium expansion will be released as early as 2024, with a new region and a class that has never been seen in Diablo before.

According to Associate Game Director Brent Gibson (via GamesRadar), the plot will tie in directly with Diablo 4’s main campaign. The Age of Hate descends upon Sanctuary and mortals must contend with the power of Mephisto.

What kind of region will come? The gates between Nahantu and Sanctuary have been closed for ages. Nahantu was spared Lillith’s wrath during the main campaign. In the expansion you can follow Neyrelle as she searches for a way to defeat the Soulstone and the Prime Evil trapped inside.

Answers to the Kurast Docks

To do this, she penetrates into the heart of the Torajan jungle. She will make her way to the temple city of Travincal, which was once the headquarters of the Church of Zakarum in Kurast and the site where the capture of Mephisto took place. Vessel of Hatred aims to provide answers to questions – particularly how the famous Kurast docks have evolved since Diablo 2.

The expansion should not only bring a compelling storyline, but also a sixth grade, Gibson says:

With the continuation of our story, the new region, a new class and all these new ways to play, we can really achieve something great. We’re having a lot of fun experimenting with the seasons and learning a lot by listening to our players, and we’ll be able to use all of this feedback to take another big step forward.

Brent Gibson via GamesRadar Nostalgia and new elements

Despite the nostalgic backdrop, Gibson emphasizes that Diablo 4’s expansion is the sequel that players have been waiting for. He assures that players will definitely find out the fate of the stone. It will pick up exactly where you left off and continue the story explored in the main campaign.

Particular attention is paid to the integration of Vessel of Hatred. The expansion should be seamlessly integrated, meaning that all players, regardless of their playing style, should get their money’s worth. Returning players can immediately dive into the new storyline, while newcomers have the option to skip the original campaign.

Which class awaits us? Favorite classes like the Paladin or Witch Doctor will not be returning with the new addon, as Brent Gibson explains:

Frankly, we were at a crossroads. When we got to the point where we were talking about the expansion, we had to decide whether we wanted to do another classic or something new. We felt we had a responsibility to give Sanctuary new ways to play.

Brent Gibson says he’s eager to reveal more about the new class, but Blizzard wants to save some surprises for 2024. The new class is said to be the Spiritborn, as leakers have found out. The Spiritborn should be close to nature, which would fit the upcoming jungle setting, and he should wield a glaive. However, this information has not yet been confirmed.

At launch, Brent Gibsion promises that the expansion will have content for seasonal players and that there should be something for every type of player. This is really important to them. There are so many playstyles out there right now, and we don’t want to exclude any of the groups along the way.

Many details are still being kept under wraps by Blizzard, but overall Vessel of Hatred seems to promise to further explore the darkness in Sanctuary while bringing a breath of fresh air to Diablo. The expansion is scheduled to appear at the end of 2024.
