“Very concerned, it is impossible to understand”

The national ski team is making major changes to the varsity team.
It makes Anders Blomquist see red.
– I am very concerned and worried, says the SVT expert.

Earlier in the summer, the national ski team and the head of fencing Anders Svanebo announced that they are making a big change for the coming season, as the star fencer Perry Olsson, who was recruited just a few years ago, is leaving for the coming season. But that’s not enough. Yesterday it was also decided that another experienced fencer in the form of Larry Poromaa is also leaving.

Blomquist’s great criticism

This means that Sweden will lose its two most experienced fencers by far next season, and the news is not well received by Anders Blomquist, SVT’s popular expert.

– I am very concerned and worried. There are two very heavy, talented, world-recognized talented fencers with long, long experience who are disappearing from the Swedish fencer team. The herding team has an important task, a very important task. They are heavy players. You may miss out on a lot of experience by not having them next season. I am very worried, he says.

Anders Blomquist reacts above all to the fact that it is happening during a season where the WC in Trondheim awaits. That’s where it can become more important than ever with experienced herders.

– That two of the world’s best whalers, two of the most experienced whalers we have in Sweden, are not brought into a season where there is a WC in Trondheim… Open sea like rapid weather changes. The snow will transform quickly, most likely. It will be difficult. Great demands on the gelding team, and the gelding team is important for us to achieve success for the Swedish riders. Not to have the best possible team as head of the herd in such a task is incomprehensible, says “Blomman”.

“Responsibility falls on them”

According to Anders Blomquist, there is a big risk that the riders will be seriously affected by the announcement.

– The risk that the skiers have worse skis is their competitors, it has increased. The chances that the Swedish skiers will have better skis than the other national teams have decreased. This is on a level, I think, that you have lost so much competence, and that no more people are now prepared to take responsibility…

Anders Svanebo is the herd manager who made the decision to release Olsson and Poromaa, but according to Blomquist there are more people who need to take responsibility if there should be herd chaos during the winter.

– Anders Byström as responsible for competition operations and Lasse Öberg as responsible for cross-country operations…. The responsibility also falls on them. If we are now going to herd ourselves away this winter and especially in the World Cup, then they also have a shared responsibility when you let this happen in the open.
