Verstappen took ninth in a row – touching the record

Despite a red flag with seven laps to go due to torrential rain, the 25-year-old was able to take his ninth straight victory this season – and in the process tied Sebastian Vettel’s winning streak from 2013. Sunday’s triumph is also Verstappen’s third straight at home and he, unsurprisingly, leads the WC- the table in superior style.

— It was not easy today because of the weather. I am incredibly proud. I already got goosebumps when they sang the national anthem. The fans cheered me on and it was an incredible experience, says Verstappen in Viaplay and continues:

— Now I’m going to enjoy this weekend, then I’m going to start thinking about the next race.

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso finished second, and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly came in third.

Red Bull, whose drivers are first (Max Verstappen) and second (Sergio Pérez) in the overall standings, dominates overall and has more than 200 points down on runner-up Mercedes in the WC series.

Next weekend, the stars go to Ferrari’s home ground, because then the Italian GP in Monza awaits.
