National team skier Verneri Suhonen has received clean papers from his doctor on Friday. At the beginning of the year, Suhonen was on a training break when fluid had been found in Suhonen’s heart bag. Already in the autumn, Suhonen had experienced chest pains.
– I can start training a little lightly. The situation looks good in that sense. Of course, this month will continue to monitor how the situation is progressing, Suhonen told Sportport on Saturday at the Rovaniemi Finnish Championships.
For 25-year-old Suhonen, the end of the season ahead of time was a bad disappointment. Like other national team skiers, the Beijing Olympics were a big goal for Suhonen. Suhonen aimed for the first value races of his career.
Back in September, Suhonen won the Finnish roller skating championship, leaving behind others Iivo Niskasen. Last season, Suhonen skied the best World Cup ranking in his career. In February 2021, he was tenth in the free sprint at Ulricehamn.
– The early season was pretty gloomy. Since the World Cup in Drammen (early March), he has been watching the races with good enthusiasm. It has been thought that “it would be cool to be at the fair.” So we have gone in the right direction, Suhonen described.
