A federal court in the United States on Monday granted ex-president Donald Trump’s request to appoint a special independent investigator to review the circumstances surrounding the raid by the federal police FBI on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence on August 8.
“A special investigator shall be appointed to review the seized property, handle claims for benefits, make recommendations thereon, and evaluate claims for the return of property,” Judge Aileen Cannon wrote in the ruling.
The ruling is a setback for prosecutors who have opposed Trump’s request. In addition, the ruling temporarily stops it from reviewing the material seized at Mar-a-Lago.
