Venezuela announced on Monday that it was cutting diplomatic relations with Paraguay and inviting all its foreign affairs representatives home.
The alignment was made a day after Paraguay’s president Santiago Pena said he supported the Venezuelan opposition.
Venezuela’s autocratic president Nicolás Maduro is scheduled to start his third term as the country’s leader on Friday.
