Police say the fence was damaged sometime between 4 am and 4:30 am when suspects entered the park on Concession 8.

Police say the fence has been temporarily mended. Barricades are also in place in front of the damaged section of fencing.

A Facebook post by a resident said drivers used a couple of vehicles to destroy about 50 feet of fencing, which will be permanently repaired in the near future.

The deer park is located near the intersection of Main Street North and Mechanic Street. The Waterford Public Utilities Commission introduced the English fallow deer to the enclosure during the Second World War as a means of keeping vegetation down in the Waterford well field. The park has been a popular community fixture ever since.

People visit the park frequently to feed the deer and take photos. A web cam also allows people to view the park online.

Several years ago the herd was almost wiped out by dogs or coyotes due to a hole in a part of the fencing around the park.

About 10 years ago Norfolk County and the Waterford Community Foundation reached an agreement for the volunteer charitable group to manage the park.
