Vehicle clocked going 175 kmh woman charged police

A Tilbury East woman is facing a stunt driving charge after a vehicle was clocked at more than twice the speed limit early Monday near Chatham.

Officers on patrol saw a vehicle going at an “excessively high rate of speed” on Merlin road in Raleigh Township at 12:29 am, with the speed clocked at an “alarming 175 km/h” in a zone with a posted speed limit of 80 km/h, Chatham-Kent police said.

The 30-year-old suspect was charged with stunt driving and and the vehicle towed away, police said.

“Speeding on the roads poses a significant risk to yourself and others,” police warned. “Exceeding the posted speed limit reduces your ability to react to unexpected situations, increases the likelihood of accidents and can result in severe injuries or even fatalities.”
