Vasaloppet’s central warehouse has burned to the ground. Blueberry soup, ski wall, scooters and machines are completely destroyed.

– All our material is gone. It is about values for many, many millions, says Johan Eriksson, CEO of Vasaloppet to P4 Dalarna.

The fire in a warehouse at Hemu’s ski stadium in Mora started at 11 p.m. on Thursday evening, local media reports. During the night, the building burned down and everything stored there was completely destroyed. Among other things, there were custom-built tanks for cooking the blueberry soup, and they can be difficult to replace.

– There are only a couple of months left until the event. We will fix this, but the Vasaloppet may look a little different this winter, says Johan Eriksson to the radio.

With its nine miles, the Vasaloppet is the world’s largest long-distance race on skis. The first race was organized in 1922, and since then over 1.7 million participants have made it between Sälen and Mora. Nowadays, a number of different ski races are run during an entire Vasalopp week.

A preliminary investigation into suspected arson has been launched. There is still no suspect in the incident.
