Vapiano was founded in 2002 in Germany and is a restaurant chain that serves food with inspiration from Italy.
In 2007, the chain came to Sweden and today has restaurants in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. In 2017, the restaurant chain had over 180 restaurants in 32 countries.

Vapiano restaurant lost its serving permit
In December 2023, one of Vapiano’s restaurants in Gothenburg lost its serving license. The Environment and Climate Committee in the Municipality of Gothenburg held that the company was not suitable for a serving permit.
This after the company broke the alcohol law on several occasions and did not report significant changes, nor did it show how the financing of a number of share transfers took place or show the origin of the money in these transfers.
The board also held that the restaurant mishandled payments of taxes and fees. Namely, the company had “six outstanding debts with the Crown Enforcement Officer with significant amounts, 28 payment requests and eleven arrears from the Swedish Tax Agency regarding taxes and fees.”, it is stated in the judgment of the Administrative Court which News24 took part in.

Because the company failed to comply with the requirements of the Alcohol Act, Vapiano in Gothenburg was no longer allowed to sell and serve alcohol. The decision was something that Vapiano thought was unfair and therefore appealed the verdict.
In the past few days, the Administrative Court’s new judgment has come. The restaurant first requested that the decision be revoked and annulled and secondly that the company be issued with a reminder or warning.
The administrative court made an in-depth investigation and interviewed several people in the company about the situation in order to make its decision.
Vapiano is assigned a warning
And in an overall assessment of what emerged in the case, the administrative court considers that the intervention can stop at the company being awarded a warning.
This means that Vapiano will be allowed to keep the serving permit, but with the requirement to correct the mismanagement and implement measures to ensure that there are no further irregularities.
