    Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wants the United States to remain in NATO, and for the defense alliance to be strong, according to Trump’s vice presidential candidate JD Vance.

    – We would stay in NATO, he says.

    In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the press”, however, Vance says that NATO countries need to carry their own burden.

    – NATO is not a welfare client, it should be a real alliance.

    Trump has previously complained about NATO and claimed that the NATO countries exploit and squander US resources.

    During the interview, Vance avoids calling Russian President Vladimir Putin an “enemy”.

  • Collision on the Öresund Bridge – closed

    A van has collided with a TMA car, a vehicle used for road works, on the Öresund Bridge.

    This is what the police write on their website.

    The road is now closed in the direction of Sweden.

    – It is a vehicle that at low speed rolled into a barrier vehicle that was in place to manage the recovery of another vehicle, says Håkan Månsson, officer on duty at Rädningstjänsten Syd, to South Sweden.

    The driver of the van has been injured, but it is unclear how seriously.

    Bolivia’s former president Evo Morales says shots have been fired at the car he was traveling in on his way to a radio interview in the city of Cochabamba on Sunday. The driver was injured, according to Morales.

    – The car I arrived in has 14 bullet holes, says Morales, adding:

    – This was planned. The idea was to kill Evo.

    On Facebook, he has posted his own film showing the shelling.

    Morales was quick to blame his successor, Luis Arce.

    In 2006, Evo Morales became the first president with roots in Bolivia’s indigenous population. He was immensely popular until he tried to circumvent the constitution and be re-elected for a fourth time in 2019.

  • Hundreds of tons of rice were stopped

    After checks against wholesalers all over Sweden, hundreds of tons of rice have been stopped, reports say Today’s News.

    It is suspected that there has been quality fraud.

    An effort has been carried out by the Swedish Food Agency, the Police, the Work Environment Agency and the Customs Agency.

    Among other things, pests were found during the inspection.

    Only 5 percent of the rice was of the promised quality.

    Five of the companies that were audited have been banned from selling.

  • Van with dogs overturned

    A van has overturned and landed on the roof north of Orsa. One person has been taken to hospital by ambulance, reports P4 Dalarna.

    There were also two other people and three dogs in the van. They were able to get out of the van on their own and the dogs are said to be fine.

  • Twenty are said to have been killed in northern Gaza

    At least 22 people, including 11 women and two children, were killed in Israeli strikes on northern Gaza late Saturday night, the health ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza said.

    A further 15 people are said to have been injured in the attacks, carried out against several residential buildings and other buildings in the town of Beit Lahiya.

    The death toll is expected to rise.

    Israel’s military, for its part, states that a “precision attack” against “militant Palestinians” has been carried out in Beit Lahiya and that the military has taken measures to avoid harming civilians.

    According to the Ministry of Health, hundreds of people have been killed in recent weeks and more than 60,000 have been forced to flee.

  • One person dead after capsize

    One person has died after the boat accident on Storsjön at the height of Sandviken, the police write on their website.

    Relatives have been notified.

    It was in the morning that the alarm came to the rescue service that an oak tree had overturned.

    Two people who had been in the boat raised the alarm themselves about the accident, but the third person had to be rescued from the water.

    The people who rode in the boat were in their 60s and 70s.

  • New ceasefire negotiation in Gaza

    The CIA, Mossad and Qatar’s prime minister are to meet on Sunday to negotiate a new short-term ceasefire agreement in Gaza, reports Reuters.

    The negotiation aims to get Israel and Hamas to agree to a truce that would last just under a month.

    But the hope is, according to a source to Reuters, that it will lead to a more permanent agreement.

    The agreement also includes an exchange between those held hostage by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners.

    But the details of who or how many would be released are not yet clear, according to the source.

  • New evacuation order in southern Lebanon

    Israel again orders immediate evacuation for parts of southern Lebanon. This time it is about 14 locations, writes Avichay Adraee, spokesperson for Israel’s military, on X.

    “For your own safety, you must immediately evacuate your homes and move to the northern part of the Awali River,” he writes according to AFP.

    On Saturday night, Israel also carried out airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, Lebanon’s state news agency said shortly after midnight.

    Before the attack, the Israeli military (IDF) ordered residents in the vicinity of two designated buildings in two different neighborhoods to evacuate immediately.

    “You are close to Hezbollah installations and interests against which the IDF will operate in the near future,” an IDF spokesperson wrote on X late Saturday night.

  • Survived the car crash – treated for serious neck injuries

    The 18-year-old young woman who survived the car crash on Brändön in Luleå last week has suffered severe neck injuries, writes Norrbottenskuriren on Sunday.

    She has been treated in hospital during the week, but it is unclear whether she will have permanent pain.

    The woman has not yet been able to be questioned about the accident.

    – It is going in the right direction, but the hearing will take place next week at the earliest, says preliminary investigation leader Erik Lampinen to the newspaper.

    If the woman’s memories could be affected by the injuries, he says:

    – Of course there is a risk that she doesn’t remember anything. Sometimes the memories can come much later as well, says the preliminary investigation leader.

  • Boat has capsized in Sandviken – one seriously injured

    A smaller oak with three people in it has capsized on Storsjön at the height of Sandviken.

    One is seriously injured and was taken to hospital, according to the emergency services. The other two people had to be taken to hospital.

    The people are in their 60s and 70s.

    – Two people swam in and were able to alert us themselves, but one had to be picked up from the water, says Jimmy Andersson Taylor, emergency manager at Gästrike rescue service.

    The reason behind the boat tipping is unclear, but it is windy on the lake, says Andersson Taylor.

    At lunchtime, the emergency services announced that they were ready at the scene.

    The alarm came in at half past ten on Sunday.

  • Elderly man dead in Nybro

    On Saturday, an 85-year-old man was found dead in his home in Nybro under unclear circumstances.

    A man in his 40s is arrested and reasonably suspected of murder.

    At the moment, the police cannot go into whether they know each other from before.

    – We will continue with a forensic investigation during the day, says Patric Fors at the police.

    Relatives have been notified.

  • 14 poisoned in hotel – owner arrested

    14 people have been poisoned in a hotel in the northern Greek city of Florina, the newspaper reports Kozan.gr.

    They passed out at the hotel and showed symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. The toxic smoke is believed to have come from a heating system in the hotel.

    All victims have been taken to hospital. Two are assessed to be in critical condition.

    The hotel owner has been arrested, but why is unclear.

  • Truck has driven into bus stop in Tel Aviv

    A truck has run into several people who were standing at a bus stop in the town of Gillot north of Tel Aviv, the Israeli police write on X.

    What has happened is unclear, the police are now investigating the incident.

    The Times of Israel writes that several people have been injured. The newspaper states that the police are currently classifying it as a suspected terrorist attack.

    There is varying information about the number of injured. But according to Israeli media, it is about tens.

    The bus stop where the truck drove in is outside the Israel Defense Forces base in Gilot.
