Sometime in the sixties of the last century, the shipyards and the activity that those yards brought with them disappeared from Vreeswijk and the surrounding area. Residents protested, but it didn’t help, the municipality built houses on the sites of the wharves. Only one yard survived and it’s still there today! Mainly for the restoration of (old) ships.
