A WATER LINE WHAT IS THAT AGAIN?
The province of Utrecht is dotted with fortresses. Fort Vechten, Fort Rijnauwen, Fort aan de Klop. All fortresses that together with a number of waters form the New Dutch Waterline.
A well-known way of defending in the Netherlands is through a Waterline. Create a wide strip of water by inundating. That would mean; You pierce a number of dikes & You submerge a part of the land so that the enemy cannot pass. On the parts where the water is not wide enough, build forts to use that passage. the New Dutch Waterline consists of 46 forts. And on one of those fortresses we are now; Fortress fighting. Where is also the waterline museum . Everything about this line can be found there. In addition to the New Dutch Water Line, there are more water lines such as the Old Dutch Water Line west of Utrecht. All these water lines have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since last year.
