“I was absolutely convinced that it was garlic,” says De Witte. “But it could be that Mr. Van Gogh himself said: ‘These are onions.’ If he puts a title on his canvas, then it ends. But he never named the canvas himself, the mistake was made by someone else. And for a hundred years no one saw that it was garlic.”
