Hoole set the time to beat with 49.33 minutes, after the Trek-Segafredo rider was already third halfway through. Bax then got stuck at 6 seconds, but Van Emden dived well below that time with 49.15. He then saw that Mollema, who had set the second fastest time halfway through, ended up in fifth place at 40 seconds.
