Valtteri Moren, 33, did not recover from his serious knee injury.

Helsinki Football Club reportthat of the eight-time Finnish champion and three-time winner of the Finnish Cup Valtteri Morenin professional career is over. Moren’s career ends at the age of 33, as serious knee injuries no longer allowed the central defender to return.

– Yes, it will definitely take a lot of effort. For two and a half years I worked so that I would still be able to play, but when it didn’t work out, it’s a difficult place, Moren lamented.

HJK said that they will consider the decision of Moren’s career in the Conference League match against Olimpija Ljubljana on Thursday.

– Now we just have to keep our spirits up and look towards new challenges. And to think that the career could have gone a lot worse. When you look back, before the injuries, at some point it was going quite well, Moren reminded.

Moren won all his Finnish championships in HJK. None of HJK’s players have achieved something similar.

In addition, only eight Finnish championships have been achieved in Finland Akseli Pelvas (7 x HJK, 1 x SJK) and Eino Soinio (7 x HJK, 2 x HPS).

Moren received his ninth gold medal at the end of the 2023 season, but officially the name was not immortalized in the statistics because Moren was unable to play in the league during the season.

Moren’s knee disintegrated in June 2022 in a Finnish Cup match in Vaasa. Moren returned to the field in a Klubi 04 match in the summer of 2023, but the knee broke again.

– The first championships and the 2014 Europa League, especially the home matches won, and of course the games against Rapid Wien that secured the place in the group stage, especially the decisive away win, Moren summed up the highlights of his career.

Moren started playing in Kiffen and as a junior also represented PK-35 and HJK. At the representative level, Moren represented HJK from 2010–15 and again from 2020. In between, he played five seasons in the Belgian premier league in Waasland-Beveren.

In Huuhkaj, Moren played four matches, in which he also scored a goal in his debut against Estonia in 2014.
