Valtteri Bottas qualifying session abandoned due to a team crash

The performance of Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas in the F1 time trials of the British GP has been rejected, says the FIA.

Alfa Romeo Valtteri Bottas the car froze on the side of the track in silvestone in the first section of the British gp F1 time trial. Bottas was 11th at that point.

Bottas would have qualified for the second section, but he was unable to continue qualifying, so he finished 15th in the preliminary results.

– I doubted a little that the fuel ran out or what happened to it. The car didn’t have any problems before, suddenly the power went out. It’s a shame, when the last lap was pretty good and the pace was fine, Bottas told Viaplay right away.

According to the rules, a stop due to running out of fuel always leads to rejection, because F1 cars must have at least a liter of fuel left in the tank for sampling.

Consequently, Bottas’ performance on Saturday was invalidated and he has to start the race starting at 17:00 on Sunday last.

On Alfa Romeo’s social media, Bottas seems reasonably confident after the day’s events.

– This is not the result we were looking for in qualifying. However, the car and its speed felt better than before. The focus has now shifted to Sunday’s race, from which World Championship points will be awarded, Bottas said.
