Today the first episode of the TV series about Börje Salming is released.
Börje’s favorite thing about the series had been the comedy, Valter Skarsgård believes.
– I know that because when he was on the set once, he sat and tanned, says the actor who plays Börje in the series.
The first episode of “Börje – The Journey of a Legend” is released today on Viaplay. The series is about the hockey legend Börje Salmings life, and the path from Jukkasjärvi to the top of the world and the NHL.
Börje’s favorite
Börje tragically passed away just over a year ago, in the aftermath of ALS. But the former defender managed to be involved in a lot in the beginning in the creation of the series. He even managed to be there during some of the filming of it, and was so proud of the series and looking forward to watching it.

The screenwriter Martin Bengtsson met Börje a lot during the script work. And there is something Bengtsson thinks would have been Börje’s favorite thing about the series.
– He read the script and approved and gave his blessing, and was very entertained. He told me that he laughed and cried. I know that he liked a lot the character who is a central character in the story called “Smokey”, and who was a material manager in Toronto, who gets a central role in telling about Börje’s journey.
– Börje liked that grip very much. That it was an “insider”, so to speak, in the Maple Leafs Garden who also came there, was working class and so on, who got to tell this story, says Bengtsson to Sportbibeln.
Skarsgård’s memory
As the one who plays Börje, Valter Skarsgård met him a lot. Both before and during recording. They got to know each other well and the actor has told how Börje lit up when he entered the room. Valter sees something else as what he thinks would have been Börje’s favorite thing about the series.
– The comedy.

And he explains why.
– I know that because he was on set once. Then he sat and scolded me every time I couldn’t speak English, because he couldn’t in the beginning (in Toronto). So there was a scene where I wouldn’t be able to speak English and then I heard him sitting and tanning.
– I didn’t even know he was on set, I just heard someone sitting and shouting and thought “what the hell is going on”. Then he sat down and died laughing. So I think he would have liked the funny stuff a lot, says Skarsgård.
