Valley Heights Secondary School recognizes its top athletes

Valley Heights Secondary School recently honored its top athletes at the school’s June athletics assembly.

Junior athletic awards (for athletes who accumulating 60 athletic points) were presented to Magwyer Cowan, Nic Driedger, Troy Gillis, Ryan Hamm, Allison Jennings, Owen Oates, Brooklynn Perry, Kieran Savoy, Sarah Stewart and Brooklyn Wilson.

Senior athletic awards (125 athletic points) were received by Dylan Boyd, Hannah Bridges and Chantelle Coulombe.

The prestigious VHSS Purple Heart Award, a very difficult level to achieve (150 athletic points), was presented to Hannah Bridges.

Dylan Boyd, Emma Driedger and Bridges were VHSS Senior Athletes of the Year.

Boyd played badminton, soccer, volleyball, hockey, and he was the school’s senior boys champion in track and field, as well as the MVP in soccer.

Bridges was active in badminton, basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, track and field, and volleyball. She earned MVP awards in badminton, soccer, cheerleading, and basketball.

Driedger, a former Purple Heart recipient, was a standout in badminton, sharing the MVP award in that sport. She played basketball, soccer and volleyball. She was also the school’s senior girls track and field champion, competing at CWOSSA and OFSAA Regionals. She was ninth in her event at OFSAA.

Madalynn Block was recognized as a Junior Athlete of the Year, playing basketball, badminton, soccer and volleyball. She earned MVP in volleyball.

Joel Driedger was the VHSS Junior Boys Athlete of the of the Year playing badminton, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track and field.

MVP awards were presented to Shawn Knelsen (golf), Emily Marlatt (tennis), Kieran Savoy (cross-country), Hannah Bridges (cheerleading), Ava Barham (junior girls basketball), Hannah Bridges (senior girls basketball), Aaron Knelsen ( junior boys volleyball), Shawn Knelsen (senior boys volleyball), Kieran Savoy (hockey), Hannah Bridges and Emma Driedger (badminton), Madalynn Block (junior girls volleyball), Emma Driedger (senior girls volleyball), Dylan Boyd (boys soccer) , and Hannah Bridges (girls soccer).

Track and field medals were presented to Sahara Peters (gold), Emilie Mole (silver), and Meeghan McKillen (bronze) in the novice girls division.

A junior girls track and field award was presented to Brooklyn Mayo (gold), and senior girls track and field awards to Emma Driedger (gold), Brooklynn Perry (silver), and Sarah Stewart (bronze).

Novice boys track and field awards were presented to Cohen Savoy (gold), Owen Adams (silver), and Joel Driedger (bronze).

Junior boys track and field individual winners were Rocky Negro (gold), Allen Carroll (silver), and Eytan Mirie (bronze). And in the senior boys division, the track and field winners were Dylan Boyd (gold), Nic Driedger (silver), and Ryan Hamm (bronze).

Valley Heights thanked Sonneveld Ranch for doing the athletic awards’ medal and plaque engraving for the event.
