Valheim: the game is being released on consoles and in the Xbox Game Pass

Valheim the game is being released on consoles and in

After its dazzling success story last February, Valheim quickly became one of the most popular games in its category. 18 months, a few updates and 10 million copies sold later, it lands with fanfare on consoles and in the Xbox Game Pass.

[Mis à jour le 16 juin 2021 à 17h09] Valheim has probably had the most unexpected success in the video game industry for a few years. This survival-builder is in the vein of Minecraft while offering a completely different graphic approach and artistic direction, and has managed to attract more than 10 million players in just over a year. The good news of the moment is that the Iron Gate Studio teams took a short tour of the Xbox & Bethesda conference at Summer Game Fest 2022, to tell us a bit about the future of Valheim. Good news for console users, the game will land live 2023 on Xbox One is Xbox Series, in addition to joining the Xbox Game Pass.

Everything is explained in this new little trailer with small onions. Valheim will join the Xbox Game Pass PC offer in the fall of 2022, but we don’t care since what interests us follows a little further: the game is finally coming to consoles! A version fully adapted to the Xbox Series is currently being developed at Coffee Stain and Iron Gate Studio. But old-gen users will also be able to enjoy it since the game will also be released on Xbox One. The release window for Valheim on consoles is announced for early spring 2023. Hopefully, this date will hold more than previous update promises!

The wait for this update has marked one thing above all, one thing that cannot be taken away from the Iron Gate teams: their ability to communicate openly on the progress of future updates of the game. An honesty well received by its many fans, despite sometimes quite long delays. It must be said that no one could have predicted such success for this small independent survival game, which has almost risen to the level of the giant Minecraft in terms of popularity. Such a large and sudden influx of players caused difficulties for the small development team, which focused on fixing some bugs and issues, rather than adding new content. A completely understandable choice, making it possible to make an already relatively complete gaming experience more stable.

That’s why, as mentioned above, the Iron Gate team removed their game’s development roadmap from their site, knowing full well that they couldn’t meet the goal of four big additions of content by the end of 2021. And the first stage of this roadmap was the “Hearth & Home” update. And she has arrived! It will then be followed by a patch dedicated to the introduction of content in one of the new biomes of the game: “Mistlands”. Valheim still has a bright future ahead of it and, in a way, postponing the updates also allows them to be worked on in more detail. Quality content later, rather than incomplete right now, seems to be the watchword at Iron Gate Studio, which intends to republish its modified roadmap shortly. In the meantime, the Iron Gate teams still regularly publish patches that greatly improve the gaming experience and its optimization, but still take their time a little.

Valheim is an open-world survival game where you play as a fallen viking who joins one of the worlds of the afterlife of Norse mythology: Valheim. The player must craft items to survive in a self-generated world and defeat Odin’s enemies hidden there. Crafting, resource management, exploration, everything came together to make Valheim one of the successes of the year 2021. And it is rather the case, because this little game originally developed by a team of five people risks to reach 8 million sales at the beginning of July. A beautiful story rewarding an ambitious and original game.

Our guides to Valheim

Valheim is currently only available on Linux and PC via Steam. A version in full work, which Iron Gate has announced that it wishes to complete before a possible export to consoles.
