Already in the last election, beach protection was a hot election issue in Lessebo municipality. All parties, except MP and V, want to make exceptions in the beach protection act so that more houses can be built near the lakes.
– We want it to become more attractive to live in our municipality. It’s not like nobody should be allowed to come near a beach, we should build near the beaches and not on the beaches, says Marcus Dackling (M).
Attractiveness
Since 2018, the municipality has been working on developing a plan for rural areas in coastal locations (LIS plan), and in March 2022 it entered into force. Nine areas at seven lakes are designated as future sites for development.
It is a step forward for the Lessebo politicians who want to see more newly built villas by the lakes, and at the same time a setback for the local environmentalists.
– Lessebo becomes more attractive if we are afraid of our nature. That is an attractive force in itself. There is a risk that buildings will remain empty for many years in the future. We’ve seen what the old glass factory renovations have done, we don’t want to experience that again, says Per-Inge Olsson (MP).
