Vaasa’s Palloseura is in a strong mood, but its feet are on the ground – head coach: “Even the undefeated streak ends sometimes” | Sport

Vaasas Palloseura is in a strong mood but its feet

The Vaasa Football Club is at the top of the Veikkausliiga. It has won four of its games this season and drawn once.

Vaasan Palloseura (VPS), which won bronze in the Veikkausliiga last season, has progressed this season with the same league that ended last season.

The season is now five games behind.

VPS has won four of them and tied once. The club’s unbeaten streak is currently no less than 22 matches.

The head coach Jussi Nuorela reminds that there is no question of any sudden change.

– We’ve been drawn pretty much with the same template for the third year already. Every year there are new players who always modify the game a little, says Nuorela.

Nuorela adds that the team believes in what they are doing and is currently able to implement it.

– The team works well together and everyone knows what we want.

Last season’s great decision and great games are etched in history and the focus on the current season is total.

Nuorela knows that at some point even a long undefeated streak will end.

– Everyone talks about our undefeated streak, but yes, we lost games that winter. And in my opinion, it was quite good that we lost. It’s not a troll if there is a loss at some point.

A goal-loving Dane

One of the new players who joined the Vaasa Football Club this season is a Danish center forward Mads Borchers.

Borchers signed a 1+1 contract with VPS and has been effective in the early season, scoring three goals.

The first goal of the season came in the Gnistan match and in the match against FC Lahte, Borchers scored two goals.

Borchers enjoys being in Vaasa and the team. According to him, the team is in perfect harmony and the mood is good, which affects everyone.

– Football is a lot about mental issues and mental health. I believe that it affects me on the field as well, when I play, reflects Borchers.

“It’s a game like any other”

VPS will play the next two games away.

Next Friday (May 10), the team will play in Kuopio as a guest of KuPS, and a week later in Helsinki they will face perennially successful, reigning Finnish champions HJK.

Neither of the games will be easy.

KuPS is also having a good season. It finished second last season just ahead of VPS.

VPS won’t do any tricks in the match against KuPS, but you have to be ready, says head coach Nuorela.

– KuPS has quality players at every position. It is a versatile and difficult opponent. The players change a lot of playing positions and like to hold the ball a lot, Nuorela sums up.

According to Nuorela, you should be able to answer this by getting to the ball yourself and holding it.

Kuopio has been called a difficult place for the away team to win. However, Mads Borchers takes it easy.

– It’s a game like any other. We’re going there to take the three points, it’s as simple as that!

VPS is currently at the top of the Veikkausliiga and KuPS is fourth.
