The roughly 35 million residents were stopped from the platforms after the government deemed them to have violated a domestic law that states all personal data must be stored within the country’s borders.
But from Monday, the Uzbeks will also be allowed to tweet, and the state authority that handles cyber matters writes in a statement that “blocking only harms development”.
Uzbekistan states that it is also negotiating with Tiktok to open its channels to the app, which is also officially banned in the country but is nevertheless said to be popular among young Uzbeks.
