“You have to abolish this way of voting,” says Uytdehaage. “You could work with two rounds of voting. From a selection made by the jury, the top athletes, and possibly the public, choose three candidates. The winner is then chosen from those three during the gala. I think that athletes think much more consciously about their choice. Now it is often: ‘Oh, I like that one'”, said the former skating champion. “With the current techniques, a different way of voting is very well possible.”
