Until now, traveling by train has only been encouraged by the university, but in many cases it is now mandatory. In this way, the educational institution hopes to emit fewer harmful substances. “We want to be CO2 neutral by 2030. Traveling less and more often choosing the train instead of the plane is better for the climate and contributes to the reduction of total emissions,” says a spokesperson. Research by UU itself shows that air travel accounted for 11 percent of the university’s total CO2 emissions.
