Taking care of sick wild birds is not an official task for governments, but Utrecht chooses to do this anyway. “We think it is important that sick and dead birds are collected, not only for the welfare of animals, but also for public health,” writes alderman Linda Voortman to the city council. Utrecht has arranged this in one contract with the Dierenbescherming. The implementation is carried out in collaboration with, among others, the Utrecht Animal Ambulance and the Utrecht Bird Shelter.
